Born in the Fiji Islands, Tina Daljeet Kaur Sodhi moved to California with her family at the age of ten. Adjusting to a new country, culture, and language — while already fluent in two others — instilled in her a deep appreciation for resilience, diversity, and the importance of community. These values continue to guide her personally and professionally.
Tina earned her Bachelor of Arts in Criminology, Law and Society with a minor in Political Science, becoming the first in her family to attend law school and earn a graduate degree. In 2004, she married, moved to Albany, and attended Albany Law School. During law school, she gained broad legal experience through internships with the Albany County District Attorney’s Office, Public Defender’s Office, New York State Attorney General’s Office, and the State Police Counsel’s Office.
After earning her law degree, Tina began her legal career as an Assistant Public Defender in the Albany County Public Defender’s Office. Through hard work, integrity, and dedication to her clients, she rose through the ranks and was ultimately appointed Albany County Alternate Public Defender, becoming the first Indian woman to hold that position. With two decades of legal experience, Tina has built a career rooted in fairness, compassion, and justice for all.
Tina serves on the Executive Board of the Chief Defenders Association of New York (CDANY), is a Board Member of the Capital District Women’s Bar Association, and an active member of the Albany County Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, New York State Defenders Association (NYSDA), National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL), and the Appellate Division, Third Department Attorney Admissions Committee.
She lives in North Bethlehem with her husband and their two daughters. In her free time, Tina enjoys community involvement and manages her daughter’s soccer team.
With nearly twenty years of public service and courtroom experience, Tina Sodhi brings dedication, integrity, and a deep commitment to justice to her candidacy for Albany County Court Judge.
Albany County Court presides over felony criminal cases, certain civil matters as provided by law, and appeals from local courts. County Court Judges are entrusted with the responsibility of making fair and impartial decisions, safeguarding constitutional rights, and ensuring that justice is administered efficiently and with integrity. Their role is essential to maintaining public trust and ensuring the justice system serves all members of the Albany County community with dignity and respect.
